Description:

  • Client is currently seeking a Technical Translator/Localizer who is bilingual in French and English.
  • As a Technical Translator, you will use your proficiency in both languages to translate software strings, terminology, instrument user manuals, package inserts and online help for medical device products.
  • You will also be responsible for conducting product testing which will give you the opportunity to suggest improvements to software under development.
  • Translation is typically from English to French; however, translation from French to English is required on occasion.
  • The Technical Translator/Localizer manages translation/localization projects from R&D concept to product post-launch and seamlessly integrates content from software developers to technical writers for global client customer use.
  • The Technical Translator/Localization Specialist will work closely with Product/Software Development, Translation Specialists, Technical Writers, Project Managers, Development Engineers, and other product development personnel to define project/product internationalization and localization scope/strategy.
  • Perform analysis of English application builds for localization strategy including time and material requirements
  • Performs analysis of English instructions for use to ensure cost effective and regionally acceptable translation/localization content outputs
  • Troubleshoots and creates solutions for technical production issues, including TM management and assisting with script development for data manipulation
  • Coordinates terminology, software string, and instructions for use changes; and updates linguistic assets accordingly
  • Acts as regional in-country reviewer for terminology, software strings, instructions for use, and instrument user interfaces
  • Performs regional translations for terminology, software strings, instructions for use, and instrument user interfaces
  • Serves as regional language SME for content-related queries from vendors and internal teams
  • Performs desktop publishing for instructions for use
  • Analyzes content translation/localization project risks and communicates mitigation actions
  • Reviews localized internal content assets and reports errors and inconsistencies
  • Identifies and communicates quality concerns and reports out to R&D, vendors, internal reviewers, and localization/technical writing team
  • Assists with data clean up in TermWeb and management of translation memories to eliminate outdated and deprecated content/terminology
  • Develops and maintains localization tools and automated processes including supporting documentation and training
  • Performs publication re-engineering changes to accommodate localization-related adjustments
  • Tests localized software/online help

 

Independent Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Collaborates on software projects with core team representatives
  • Contributes to translation/localization project preparation by analyzing English files to be translated/localized
  • Researches new and existing tools and products in the industry
  • Develops tools, scripts, and macros to automate translation and localization processes
  • Keeps abreast of the basic requirements for compliance in own area of work and complies with those requirements; participates as required in training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work; brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management
  • Participates in the activities of professional and trade organizations through attendance at meetings
  • Administration of other policies and programs as may be determined to be within the purview of the Label Design and User Information Development department

 

Skills Requirement:

  • Fluent in English and French
  • Experience with CAT tools, terminology databases, DTP applications, mark-up languages, PDF conversion tools
  • Familiarity with MultiTrans, memoQ and machine translation tools is desired
  • Experience in preparing content in the following formats for translation/localization: XML, HTML, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office, FrameMaker and MadCap Flare. Knowledge of other formats is advantageous
  • Hands on healthcare (medical devices) experience is preferred

  • 2 years of experience with markup languages including XML, HTML, and XLIFF

 

Education And Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA, BS) in Translation/Interpreting/Localization/Software Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two to three years hands-on experience in translation/localization project management
  • Minimum of two years hands-on experience in documentation project coordination
